Immortals, Nymphs and Spirits
- Boreas
- The North wind. Son of Eos and the Titan Astaaeus. Abducted Orthyia,
daughter of King Erechttheus of Attica. Father of Calais and Zetes
who were killed by Hercules.
- Britomartis
- Virginal huntress on Crete. Daughter of Zeus. Threw herself off a
cliff to avoid the advances of King Minos. Eventually sought
sanctuary in the grove of Artemis and became her companion.
- Cacus
- Son of Hephaistos and killed by hercules for stealing Geryon's
red cattle from him.
- Callisto
- Forest nymph and companion of Artemis on the hunt. Lover of Zeus
and mother of Arcas. Tuyrned into a bear and shot by Artemis.
- Daphne
- Virgin huntress. Daughter of the river god Peneius. Turned herself
into a laurel tree to escape the advances of Apollo.
- The Fates
- Also known as the Moerae. Clotho "the spinner", Lachesis
"The apportioner" and Atropos "The inevitable".
Three goddesses who decided the destiny of man.
- The Furies
- Also known as the Erinyes. Avenging goddesses born out of the
blood of Ouranos falling into the womb of Gaia.
- Ganymede
- The beautiful son of Tros, King of Phyrigia. Abducted by Zeus to
be his immortal cup-bearer.
- The Graces
- Aglaia, Euphrosyne and Thalia. Daughters of Zeus and Eurynome and the
companions of Aphrodite. Said to represent beauty, gentleness and
friendship.
- The Harpies
- Storm Goddesses who carried away weak and wounded warrier from
the battle field. Also said to abduct Children.
- Hermaphrodites
- Son of Aphrodite and Hermes. Adopted female form when Salamacus,
a sea nymph who was spurned by him, joined with him physically
as she wished to be never parted from him
- The Hesperides
- Hespera, Aegle and Erytheis. Daughters of Hesperus and guardians
of the golden apples given to Hera by Gaia on her marriage to Zeus.
- Hypnos
- "Sleep". Son of Nyx the night goddess and brother of Thanatos
"Death. Father of Morpheus, the god of dreams.
- Inanchus
- A river god.
- The Muses
- Daughters of Zeus and the Titaness Mnemosyne "memory".
Clio, Euterpe, Thalia, Melpomene, Terpsichore, Erato, Polyhymnia,
Urania and Calliope. Inspirations for music, poetry and dance.
- The Naiads
- Water nymphs. Captured the beautiful young boy Hylas.
- Notus
- The south wind, son of Eos.
- Orion
- The giant hunter son of Poseidon. Blinded in a fight but his sight
was restored by the brilliance of Helios. Loved by Eos causing
such divine jealuosy that he was shot by Artemis aon behalf of
the gods.
- Phaethon
- Son of Helios (Apollo) and Clymene, daughter of Oceanos. Drove
his father's sun chariot aand lost control so the
chariot went so fast Zeus had to send a thunderbolt to stop it
so that the earth didn't burn up. In so doing Phaethon was thrown
out of the chariot and drowned in the ocean.
- The Pleiades
- Maia, Electra, Taygete,Celeno, Merope, Asterope and Alcyone. The seven
daughters of Atlas. Became stars to avoid the passionate intensions
of Orion.
- Sibyl
- Prophetess. Condemmed to endless old age by Apollo for spurning
him.
- The Sirens
- Beautiful sea nymphs who charmed sailors with their songs.
- Thetis
- A sea nymph. Daughter of Nereus and Doris. Married to Peleus and
mother of Achilles who she dipped in the Styx to confer immortality
on him.
- Zephyrus
- The west wind
